Best Adidas Soccer Cleats

All of the world’s best professional soccer players have one thing in common: a great pair of soccer cleats.

It’s all well and good performing well in training sessions throughout the week, but if you get to matchday and your opponents are better equipped than you are, you’ll immediately be at a disadvantage.

That’s why we’re taking a look at our picks for the best Adidas soccer cleats in this article.

Best Adidas Cleat

Adidas is a world renowned brand for all kinds of sporting equipment and apparel. They’ve made a name for themselves particularly in soccer and many of the top professional players sport some Adidas footwear in all their games.

Let’s jump right in and go over the best models you can get:

Copa Mundial

adidas mens Copa Mundial Soccer Shoe , Black/White/Black, 11 Women 10 Men US

The Adidas Copa Mundials are some of the most famous Adidas cleats in the world and they’re one of the company’s best reviewed soccer shoes on Amazon.

A large part of their charm is the simplistic design, featuring a predominantly black leather exterior with the iconic, white Adidas stripes down both sides.

Some players get a lot of stick for showing up to a game with brightly colored, extravagant footwear on. However, if you see someone rocking up in a pair of Copa Mundials, you know they mean business.

The leather material is perfectly suitable for playing soccer with. It’s stretchy enough to comfortably fit around the shape of anyone’s foot (provided they are the right size in the first place) but strong enough to protect the foot against impacts.

However, what makes these cleats even more comfortable to wear is the soft, synthetic lining and die-cut EVA midsole. EVA is a great material for keeping the shoe lightweight and provides a cushion for your feet. Similarly, the synthetic lining material is perfect for preventing rubbing and chaffing on the inside of the shoe.

The fit of any soccer shoe is essential to determining how well you can perform in them. Customer reviews have recommended going for your regular shoe size for these cleats.

Often, you might have to get a size up from your regular shoes to be able to wear them comfortably during a match but you won’t have that issue with the Copa Mundials.

These are some pretty good, standard soccer cleats but there are a couple of downsides. Because these are some of the most basic cleats Adidas sells, they don’t offer the same durability as you’d get with a more expensive setup. Some customers have complained that their Copa Mundials started falling apart after only a few weeks of use.

Also, these aren’t the most versatile cleats for different surfaces. They’re designed to work very well on a typical grass field but won’t be as good on 3G, astroturf or other synthetic field types.

  • Leather exterior – This is a great material for soccer because of its flexibility and strength
  • Synthetic interior – Keeps the inside of the shoe comfortable and avoids unwanted rubbing against the foot
  • Simple design – Some might see this as a downside but personally I think it will give a more intimidating look to your opponents
  • Good fit – You won’t have to worry about going a size up because these cleats are designed to fit well
  • Die-cut EVA midsole – Keeps the shoe lightweight and comfortable to wear in a match

  • Durability – You might find that these cleats wear out after too much consistent use
  • Versatility – These cleats aren’t the best for synthetic field types

  • Legendary soccer cleats for stability on firm natural ground
  • Leather upper with premium K-leather in the forefoot for comfort and flexibility
  • Move with explosive speed and traction on dry natural grass with the Firm Ground outsole
  • Die-cut EVA midsole for lightweight comfort
  • Soft, durable synthetic lining

Copa Gloro 19.2 FG

adidas Men's Copa Gloro 19.2 Firm Ground Soccer Shoe, Black/hi-res red/Silver Metallic, 6.5 M US

This pair of cleats comes under the same model line as the Copa Mundials that we’ve just looked at. However, there are a few subtle differences that provide differences in certain aspects of the shoe.

The first thing to note is that this model is available in a much wider range of color combinations. You can choose to stick to the all black aesthetic to keep things simple or express your style more with some other combinations of white, yellow, red or blue.

Another different design feature is the tongue flap that sits on top of the laces while you play. This is a pretty old school feature of soccer cleats that you don’t see very often any more.

The idea is that when you shoot the ball, you want to hit it with the laces of your shoe. By having a flap over the laces, it reduces the risk of your shot bouncing off of a knot in your laces and going off target.

If you’re a striker, this is something you might want to look out for.

Whilst these cleats aren’t made of leather like the previous ones, the synthetic material that is used provides a lot of the same qualities.

For example, these cleats will still provide a solid barrier between your foot and the cleats of your opponents shoes, offering some decent protection. However, you might find that the shoe doesn’t mold to your foot as well, initially.

The same issue of durability persists with these cleats as was the case with the Copa Mundials, so you might find them wearing about a bit more than you’d like. However, this seems to only be the case for certain customers, so might not be consistent with everyone.

It’s also worth noting that some color combinations of these cleats also feature a mesh material at the sides of the foot, providing a more breathable area to avoid as much foot sweating as you might normally get.

In general, I can’t really say that these are any better or worse than the other Adidas Copa cleats we’ve looked at. However, both models do provide slightly different characteristics that could enhance or hinder your game.

  • Lace covering tongue flap – This feature is great for maintaining consistency over how you kick the ball, especially with regards to shooting
  • Range of color options – Give you more freedom to express your creativity on the field
  • Accurate fit – Again, you won’t need to go up or down a size from your regular shoes with these
  • Strong material – This helps to protect your feet from impacts and potential injuries

  • Durability – Some customers have found that the sole of the shoe would wear out and split from the rest of it after only a few weeks
  • Synthetic material – Whilst this is good for creating a strong pair of cleats, it might take a little longer to break them in at first

X Ghosted.3

adidas Men's X GHOSTED.3 Soccer Shoe, Signal Green/Energy Ink, 4

The Ghosted.3 soccer shoes, from Adidas’ X range, are certainly a little different from the previous ones we’ve discussed so far.

They’re made from 100% synthetic material, making them very good for striking the ball and providing protection for your foot. The only issue with this is that they will probably be required to be worn in a little more than a leather shoe to ensure a comfortable fit during a match.

However, the unique design of these cleats does also provide some benefits for playing soccer. The Ghosted.3’s usea a speedskin upper layer which is basically a mesh material that helps you remain comfortable while playing but also gives you a high level of control over the ball.

In fact, a lot of features of these cleats are implemented with comfort in mind. For example, the stretchy tongue that goes over the arch of your foot and lower ankle is designed to avoid unwanted chafing and rubbing that can happen when changing direction at high speed.

Similarly, the whole neck of the shoe (the part that goes around your ankle) is a little longer than normal and acts almost as a second sock around your foot. Because your ankle is the part of your foot that’s most likely to experience chafing with a bad pair of cleats, this feature is great!

According to customer reviews, the sizing of these cleats has caused issues for some. In fact, the seller states that all of the sizes on Amazon are intended for men’s feet only and so women should size down 1-1.5 sizes. Even so, men might need to go up one size to make sure they can be worn for a full match.

Also, it’s been noted by some that these cleats are slightly narrower than average, which might make them unsuitable for people with wider feet.

  • Strong material – Provides a good solid layer of material between your foot and the ball
  • Comfortable design – The extended, soft material around the neck of the shoe makes it very comfortable to wear
  • Allows good ball control – The material is designed to allow a high level of control over the ball while playing
  • Range of colors available – There are a few different color combinations you could go for with these cleats

  • Synthetic material – Might require some wearing in before being used in a match
  • Sizing issues – You might have to size up or down from your regular shoes and the fit may still not be comfortable if you have wide feet
adidas Men's X GHOSTED.3 Soccer Shoe, Signal Green/Energy Ink, 4
  • Lightweight shoe with stretch tongue for extra comfort
  • Low-cut silhouette with a supportive sock-like construction that hugs the foot
  • Speedskin upper made of thin, dual-layer mesh for high-speed movements and direct touch
  • Product is men's sizing. Women should size down 1 to 1.5 sizes

Adidas Predator Series

One of Adidas’ best selling and most famous range of soccer cleats is the Predator series, which are worn by some of the best players in the world. In this section, we’ll take a look at 4 of the best cleats from the Predator series and explain the unique benefits of each.

Some things to note about all of the cleats in this series is that they are made from 100% synthetic material and a rubber sole. We’ve already established that this makes them pretty well suited for playing soccer but might make them a little uncomfortable at first.

Predator 20.2 FG

adidas Predator 20.2 Firm Ground Soccer Shoe (mens) Active Red/White/Core Black 4

The first Predators we’re looking at have some very unique design features. Primarily, over the toes of each shoe are a few dozen tiny rubber spikes which are designed to enhance ball control, swerve and grip.

Named by Adidas as ‘demonskin’, this is a feature of soccer cleats I’ve never come across before and I’m a little sceptical about how effective it would be.

Of course, the intention behind this design is to make the ball grip to the foot a little easier, which will theoretically improve how easily you can control it and how much swerve you can apply.

However, because this design is so different from any other pair of cleats, it will definitely take some getting used to and may require different techniques than you’ve already been taught.

Other than this feature, the Predator 20.2’s have a low cut collar around the ankle to provide better support and coverage to make wearing them more comfortable. They also use a firm ground outsole which suits them well to standard grass soccer fields but may make them less suitable for synthetic fields.

  • Demonskin – Might take some getting used to but will probably provide some great results on the field
  • Good soccer design – The way these shoes are designed suits them well to playing soccer
  • Comfortable – The materials and design used makes these cleats as comfortable as possible

  • Inaccurate fit – Some customers had issues finding a size that fit their feet properly
  • Poor foot support – Some customers noted that the sole of the shoes don’t offer much support
adidas Predator 20.2 Firm Ground Soccer Shoe (mens) Active Red/White/Core Black 4
  • Regular fit
  • Lightweight TPU outsole
  • Boots for bossing games on firm ground.

Predator 20.3 FG

adidas Predator 20.3 Firm Ground Soccer Shoe (mens) Core Black/White 9

These next cleats in the Predator series, again, offer a very different design to other models. The first thing you’ll notice is the very extended stretchy material that would go all the way around your ankle.

This is a trend that’s been adopted by a lot of soccer cleat manufacturers in recent years and it theoretically provides more comfort when changing direction quickly.

Slightly different to the ‘demonskin’ we saw on the previous shoes, these ones use ‘demonscale’. This basically uses the same material as the small spikes on the 20.2 FG’s but applies them in small patches across the whole arch of the foot.

Personally, I feel like this is a better application because it won’t require you to change your own technique to adapt to the cleats. Instead, these shoes should enhance the way you play already.

Other than those design features, these cleats are pretty similar to the others in the Predator series and are very high quality soccer shoes.

  • Demonskin – A better application of rubber patches that provide an enhanced level of ball control and can give your shots more swerve
  • Mid cut ankle height – Provides better coverage all the way around your ankle
  • Great soccer design – These cleats are some of the best Adidas produce, specifically for soccer

  • Synthetic material – Great for playing soccer but will need to be worn in at first
adidas Predator 20.3 Firm Ground Soccer Shoe (mens) Core Black/White 9
  • Regular fit
  • Micro-textured upper for improved ball control
  • Mid-cut boots for taking charge on firm ground.

Predator 20.4 FG

adidas Predator 20.4 Flexible Ground Soccer Shoe (mens) Core Black/Active Red 5.5

The final Predator cleats we’ll look at are the 20.4 FG’s, which use a very different design to the previous two.

They use a much more low cut ankle, which could potentially make the shoe less comfortable. However, the softer padding around the neck of the shoe makes up for this.

The control print material used on the exterior of these cleats also give great ball control coverage across the whole shoe, including on both sides. This makes these some of the best on the market for all round ball control.

Also, the FXG outsole and variety of cleat/stud lengths means you can get pairs that are better suited for your playing surface (i.e, grass or synthetic fields).

  • Soft neck padding – Makes up for the lack of ankle coverage
  • Control print – Gives a grippy quality to the whole exterior of the cleats
  • FXG outsole – Can make these cleats better suited for synthetic fields

  • Less ankle coverage – The only real downside to these cleats is that they fit more like a regular pair of soccer shoes and don’t provide as much coverage around the ankle
adidas Predator 20.4 Flexible Ground Soccer Shoe (mens) Core Black/Active Red 5.5
  • Regular fit
  • Textured Control Print coating
  • Boots for grabbing control on multiple surfaces.

Buyer’s Guide

If you’re still unsure about what soccer cleats you get, there’s nothing wrong with looking around at some other Adidas ones available on the market or maybe even a different brand. However, these are the things you should always look out for.

Commonly, soccer cleats are made from leather or synthetic materials. Leather is better for providing comfort and durability.

However, sports science has evaluated over the years that the modern synthetic materials are better for playing soccer. Synthetic shoes will give you better ball control and allow you to play at the highest possible level for your abilities.

These are the parts of the shoe that actually stick out of the bottom and provide grip on grass playing surfaces. Longer studs will give you more grip on grass, where there is earth underneath to dig into.

However, on synthetic fields, a shorter stud is more appropriate

Soccer shoes are notoriously tricky to get the right size for. In most cases, it’s best to go for 0.5-1 size higher than your regular shoes or sneakers.

It’s always better to go slightly too large than slightly too small. You should also always check the manufacturer’s specifications about sizing before purchasing as they can often vary.
